Women’s Self-Protection and Personal Safety

"Change Fear into Energy. Change Indecision into Action."

More than ever, women of all ages face new challenges in an increasingly complex environment. According to government statistics, 1 in 4 women will be the victims of sexual assault at some time in their lives. Most women know their assailants. Despite the grim statistics, there are steps women can take to protect themselves and lower the risk of experiencing violent crime.

The Benefits of Women's SP & PS

Self-protection and personal safety courses teach women to stay out of harm's way through awareness, avoidance, and effective self-defence techniques. The skills are easy to learn, and are designed to be easy to remember in times of stress or panic. Training allows women to prepare themselves to mentally and physically cope with threats and confrontation in any environment, such as: in the home, at work, on the street, while travelling, or while taking public transportation. Women of all ages and abilities can learn to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Courses in Women's SP & PS teach:

  • how to identify abusive personalities and relationships
  • effective responses to harassment and unwanted advances
  • awareness and avoidance strategies to prevent assault
  • ground defence techniques and “full contact” scenarios
  • how to turn fear into energy and defuse violent situations
  • developing an attitude of self-protection with your children
  • trusting and listening to your internal warning system

Effective Self-Defence

Women can successfully prevent, resist, escape, or survive an attack through the use of key physical and verbal self-defence techniques. At the Aikido Network we teach effective psychological and physical techniques that you can continue to practice at home. In specific courses, participants are given the opportunity to practice on a padded male attacker. Training focuses on the following:

  • frontal attacks
  • verbal de-escalation
  • attacks from behind
  • distraction methods
  • upper and lower body strikes
  • safe ways of falling
  • hand and grip releases
  • pressure points
  • ground control
  • takedown theory

Other Benefits of Women's SP & PS

  • increased self-confidence
  • stronger positive attitude
  • a heightened sense of awareness
